About the Koeiman family
This family name, with this typical spelling, appears to be originaly from
Curacao, Netherland Antilles. Several spellings of it existed in the past: Coeymans,
Kooimans, Koeijman, Koeyman and finaly KOEIMAN. The name's origin seems to go back to
the dutch family "Coeymans" who was pretty involved in the West Indisch Companie.
Some of them are to be found in the former dutch colony of Niew Amsterdam which later
became New York. Some other established in former dutch colony of Curacao and
gave "manumitie" to some of their slaves in the 18th century.
